OPGD Offers Free Workshops for Nonprofits and Faith-Based Organizations

May 15, 2006

The Mayor's Office of Partnerships and Grants Development (OPGD) will host two new workshops for representatives of nonprofit and faith-based organizations in June and July.

Facility Project Planning, Funding and Financing. This session will review the information needed before organizations pursue additional space for programs—whether leasing or purchasing. In addition, it will explain how to effectively combine fundraising and financing to pay for facility projects. Topics will include: understanding the relationship between operating, project and fundraising budgets; preparing cash flow statements; identifying options; planning a capital campaign; financing; and evaluating the organization's capacity to borrow money.

Thursday, June 15, 2006
9 am – noon
Sumner School Museum & Archives
1201 Seventeenth Street, NW

Planning a Logic Model for Your Program. A logic model summarizes a program by showing its main elements in pictorial form. Increasingly, grant applicants are required (or strongly encouraged) to provide a logic-model illustration of the program they are proposing, in addition to a narrative description.

This logic model workshop is divided into two parts. Part I will cover the reasons logic-model building has become a must-have skill; how to build a logic model in a short time; and how to know if your logic model is "right." Part II requires that participants bring a logic model to be evaluated. The group will review each logic model and provide feedback in a constructive, nonjudgmental way. Individuals may enroll for one or both parts of this workshop.

Part I - Thursday, June 29, 2006
9 am – noon
One Judiciary Square
441 4th Street, NW, Suite 1107 South

Part II - Thursday, July 13, 2006
9 am – noon
One Judiciary Square
441 4th Street, NW, Suite 1107 South

Registration for these sessions is now closed.
